Introduction
Wall Climbing Robots (WCRs) has brought immense developments in numerous capabilities, especially in navigation on non-planar surfaces and movement from one wall to another. This systematic review presents a critical examination of the existing developments in wall-climbing robots, pointing to their prospective applications in real-world situations such as inspection and maintenance. We reviewed and compared the various adhesion and locomotion mechanisms, taking into consideration their efficiency in various situations and influencing key factors affecting their performance. The control approaches utilized in wall-climbing robots and their perception capabilities were also reviewed in this paper. Potential challenges that lie ahead for wall-climbing robots are optimizing their adaptability and robustness to complex environments, which play significant roles in maximizing the efficiency of the robot.
Methodology
This Wall Climbing Robot Car is built using an Arduino microcontroller and a set of DC motors controlled via an L298N motor driver. The robot uses a suction fan or vacuum motor to generate negative air pressure beneath the chassis, allowing it to stick and move across vertical surfaces like walls or glass. The robot can be programmed to move forward, backward, left, and right while maintaining suction to stay adhered to the wall. An ultrasonic sensor is integrated into the robot to detect obstacles in its path and help prevent collisions during movement and also to measure distance, making it more autonomous and safe for indoor environments. For enhanced visibility during surveillance, especially in low-light areas, an LED array is placed near the ESP32-CAM, providing clear lighting for real-time video transmission and monitoring. The Arduino takes control of both the movement motors and the suction system, offering full programmable control. This setup makes it perfect for environments where ground access is limited, such as during inspections, surveillance, or emergency rescue missions.
