📘 Introduction:
The Internet of Things (IoT) rapidly spreading across the world in many applications, focusing great interest on its application. An example of such an application is the mining sector, in which industrial environments are noisy and dangerous. The primary goal of this work is to create and design a smart helmet system particularly for mining purposes. The system proposed is always tracking dangerous events like high temperature, humidity, presence of toxic gases, removal of the helmet by the miner, and possible impact or damage to the helmet.
Mining conditions are known to raise severe concerns like toxic gas, heat, lack of oxygen, and accidents due to adverse conditions. To enhance the safety of workers, this project formulates an IoT-based Smart Helmet that incorporates gas sensors, an IR sensor, temperature sensors, and IoT monitoring. The helmet continuously monitors the air, tracks miner health conditions, and alerts in real time using LCD display, buzzer, and also WiFi IoT dashboard. This allows early detection of dangerous conditions and permits supervisors to observe employees remotely and take immediate action to improve the working environment in mines and ensure worker safety.
🔧 Objectives:
• To detect hazardous gases like Methane (MQ6), Carbon Monoxide (MQ7), and general air quality/pollution (MQ135).
• To monitor ambient temperature using LM35 and temperature-humidity conditions with DHT11.
• To display live readings on a 16×2 LCD for the miner’s awareness.
• To send real-time safety data to an IoT cloud via WiFi module.
• To design a power-regulated, low-cost, and reliable safety helmet for mining industries.
