The proposed Smart Road Safety & Vehicle Accident Prevention System for Mountain Roads addresses this challenge by detecting approaching vehicles within a 5-metre range using distance sensors. When a vehicle comes dangerously close to a blind curve or U-turn, the system immediately activates a large red circular LED warning signal along with a high-visibility LED display board installed at a distance of approximately 2 feet from the danger zone. This provides a clear and unmistakable visual alert to oncoming drivers.
The system is controlled using an Arduino microcontroller, ensuring fast processing and reliable operation. The LED message board dynamically displays warning text such as “Vehicle Approaching – Slow Down”, while the bright red LED circle functions as an intuitive danger indicator, similar to traffic warning lights. This dual-alert mechanism significantly improves driver awareness and reaction time.
Unlike conventional safety installations, this low-cost and scalable prototype demonstrates how embedded systems can be used to enhance road safety in mountain roads, sharp turns, U-turns, school zones, tunnels, and accident-prone areas. 🧩 Methodology
The system continuously monitors the road using a distance sensor mounted near blind curves or U-turn locations. When a vehicle enters the predefined 5-metre danger zone, the sensor sends real-time distance data to the Arduino controller. The Arduino processes this information and instantly triggers two warning mechanisms. First, a large red LED circular indicator is activated to provide an immediate and highly visible danger alert. Second, an LED display board positioned around 2 feet away shows a warning message to alert approaching drivers.
