Arduino based bank security system with fingerprint authentication and GSM OTP verification setup

This is Award-Winning Project you can select this as your major project, capstone project, competition, exhibition projects etc. (Highly Recommended)

DESCRIPTION

The Bank Security System presented in this research offers an integrated and robust solution to safeguard the assets, data, and personnel of financial institutions. Its combination of Fingerprint recognition, Camera surveillance, GSM communication, Keypad authentication, IoT integration, and Arduino control ensures a state-of-the-art security system capable of meeting the dynamic challenges posed by modern banking environments. Through this innovative security system, banks can enhance customer trust, prevent security breaches, and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

In today’s rapidly evolving digital and physical security landscape, ensuring the safety of financial institutions has become a critical priority. Banks handle vast amounts of cash, sensitive customer data, and confidential transactions, making them prime targets for theft, fraud, and unauthorized access. Traditional security systems—such as manual locks, passwords, and basic surveillance—are no longer sufficient to counter modern threats. This has led to the development of advanced, multi-layered security systems integrating biometric authentication, communication technologies, and embedded systems.

Historically, bank security relied on heavy mechanical vaults and safes, physical keys and combination locks, along with security guards and manual monitoring. While these traditional methods provided a basic level of protection, they were vulnerable to key duplication, human error, and insider threats. With technological advancements, banks gradually adopted electronic locks, CCTV surveillance systems, and access control systems. However, these systems still lacked real-time authentication and remote monitoring capabilities, which are essential for modern security infrastructure.

This project proposes a Fingerprint and GSM-based Bank Security System using Arduino that integrates multiple technologies, including fingerprint authentication for biometric security, a GSM-based OTP system for two-factor authentication, a keypad interface for user input verification, and a servo motor for automated access control, with optional IoT monitoring for enhanced functionality. The system offers several important advantages, such as enhanced security through the combination of biometric and OTP verification, prevention of unauthorized access via dual-layer authentication, real-time alerts through SMS notifications, and a cost-effective and scalable design suitable for various banking environments.

Methodology

The methodology of the proposed Fingerprint and GSM-based Bank Security System focuses on implementing a multi-layer authentication process to ensure high security and reliability. The system operates through a sequence of well-defined steps, integrating biometric verification, OTP validation, and automated access control.

🔹 Step 1: System Initialization

When the system is powered ON, all components such as the Arduino, fingerprint sensor, GSM module, keypad, and LCD display are initialized. The LCD displays a message prompting the user to begin authentication.

🔹 Step 2: Fingerprint Authentication

The user places their finger on the fingerprint sensor. The system captures the fingerprint and compares it with the stored database.

  • If the fingerprint is invalid, access is denied.
  • If the fingerprint is valid, the system proceeds to the next step.

🔹 Step 3: OTP Generation via GSM

After successful fingerprint verification, the GSM module generates and sends a One-Time Password (OTP) to the registered mobile number of the user. This ensures a second layer of authentication.

🔹 Step 4: OTP Entry through Keypad

The user enters the received OTP using the keypad. The system verifies the entered OTP with the generated one.

  • If the OTP is incorrect, access is denied.
  • If correct, authentication is completed successfully.

🔹 Step 5: Access Control Mechanism

Upon successful verification, the Arduino activates the servo motor (or relay) to unlock the gate or locker. The LCD displays “Access Granted.”

🔹 Step 6: Security Actions for Unauthorized Access

If authentication fails at any stage:

  • Access is denied immediately
  • Optional: Camera captures image
  • GSM module can send an alert message

🔹 Step 7: System Reset

After operation, the system resets automatically and returns to the initial state, ready for the next user.
