In recent years, robotic cleaners have attracted significant attention in robotics research Because of their ability to help people clean floors in a variety of settings, including homes, hotels, restaurants, offices, hospitals, workshops, warehouses, and universities, robotic cleaners have garnered a lot of attention in robotics research in recent years. These machines are distinguished by their specific cleaning functions, which may involve dry vacuuming and floor mopping. While some products use sophisticated laser mapping technology, others use basic obstacle avoidance techniques made possible by infrared sensors. Robotic floor cleaners are a flexible and highly valued asset in contemporary maintenance and cleaning applications because each cleaning and operating mechanism has a unique set of benefits, For example, robots utilizing laser mapping are relatively faster, less time-consuming, and more energy-efficient, whereas obstacle avoidance-based robots are more time-consuming and less energy-efficient due to their random cleaning patterns, yet they are more affordable.

The Smart Floor Cleaning Robot using Arduino is a cost-effective and intelligent automation project designed to clean floors in homes, offices, and classrooms. It features dual rotating mop arms for effective dry cleaning and a DC fan for air drying the cleaned surface. Controlled via a Bluetooth module, the robot allows wireless manual control using a smartphone app, making cleaning more convenient and interactive.

Built on an Arduino UNO microcontroller platform, the robot uses L293D motor driver modules to control the mop motors and drive motors. The two mop arms are powered by DC motors and clean the surface as the robot moves. A DC fan is integrated into the robot to blow away remaining dust or moisture, ensuring a clean and dry surface. The robot can be moved forward, backward, left, and right wirelessly using any Bluetooth terminal app.

Methodology

The four DC motors in the Smart Floor Cleaning Robot’s mobile platform are managed by two motor driver modules, which are all connected to an Arduino microcontroller. Via a Bluetooth module linked to a smartphone app, the robot gets wireless movement commands. A DC fan to remove dust or debris and a water pump for wet mopping make up the cleaning mechanism. The pump and fan switching is managed by a relay module. The fan runs for dry cleaning, and the pump can release water for mopping when the robot advances. Through a controlled power supply circuit, a rechargeable battery powers the system. Depending on the user’s input, the robot can clean a floor in both wet and dry modes, providing an effective hybrid cleaning technique that works well in a variety of settings.
