Introduction
The IoT-Based Smart Irrigation System optimizes and automates water consumption in gardening and agricultural systems according to current weather conditions. The system uses an Arduino UNO to receive input from multiple sensors like a DHT11 sensor (humidity and temperature), a soil moisture sensor, and a rain sensor. These sensors are utilized to make decisions regarding whether to irrigate or not according to current weather and soil conditions. A water pump, powered through a relay module, gets automatically activated when the soil moisture is less than a predetermined level and rain is not sensed. The entire system is powered by a solar panel with a rechargeable battery, thus an energy-efficient and eco-friendly system. Sensor data are sent to the ThingSpeak IoT platform through a Wi-Fi module (ESP8266) for real-time monitoring, data logging, and visualization. The system minimizes manual labor, avoids overwatering, and promotes sustainable agriculture by saving water by making intelligent decisions.
