#IoT Based Home Automation using Node MCU Microcontroller This project is ideal for: ✅ Final Year College Projects, ✅ School Science Exhibition Models ✅ National/State Level Competitions, ✅ Industrial Prototype Trials ✅ DIY & Maker Projects
Introduction
Nowadays, technology is growing rapidly to ease human efforts and make our life swifter and easier. The regular up-gradation and development in technology help us to dream of a world with all ease and comfort and all the work done automatically. Home automation is a perfect example depicting the technology which helps us in running all the household machines, either simple or complex, automatically.
IoT, the Internet of Things, is a platform that helps us interface physical machines with each other so that they can communicate among themselves, and this helps in the automatic working of physical items without any direct human involvement . This does not require any human-to-human or human-to-machine communication for the transfer of data over a network . The network consists of a microprocessor and several sensors and modules, among which the communication takes place.
This project is based on to design an IoT-powered smart home automation system that is managed by a NodeMCU microcontroller. With the help of the internet, the goal is to automate electrical appliances like AC bulbs, DC fans, and other gadgets so that users can operate them from a distance using a smartphone. Modern homes benefit from increased safety, convenience, and energy efficiency . Users can use a mobile app to turn appliances on or off from any location with the aid of a Wi-Fi-enabled NodeMCU. Through the use of relays and a motor driver module, the system can control both AC and DC devices.
Objectives
-
To build a IoT-based home automation system with a NodeMCU microcontroller.
-
To remotely control household appliances using a smartphone app.
-
To enable real-time switching and monitoring using NodeMCU.
-
To integrate both AC (bulbs) and DC (fan) devices for demonstration.
-
To provide a base framework that can be expanded with sensors (like temperature, motion) in future versions.

Methodology
In this project, the main component of the IoT-based home automation system is a NodeMCU microcontroller. The NodeMCU communicates with the internet using Wi-Fi and interacts with the user’s smartphone using the Remote XY application, which allows for a graphical interface to operate connected appliances in real time. The circuit is supplied by a 12V battery, and a 7805 voltage regulator steps down the voltage to a stable 5V to power the NodeMCU and the relay module. A 4-channel relay module is utilized to control both AC devices (such as two domestic bulbs) and a DC fan. The relays are electronic switches that enable the low-power NodeMCU to control high-power electrical loads safely. When a user clicks on a button from the Remote XY application, the command is transmitted to the NodeMCU through Wi-Fi. The microcontroller interprets this input and activates the concerned relay channel to switch the concerned device ON or OFF. This arrangement gives a basic, effective, and economical method of operating home appliances remotely via the internet without employing any extra motor driver circuits. The system is modular, simple to expand, and most suitable for use in smart homes.
