Power Generation Using Electromagnetic Suspension

The objective of this project is to harness electricity through the utilization of vehicle shock absorbers. A regenerative shock absorber is a specialized type that transforms parasitic intermittent linear motion and vibration into valuable energy, specifically electricity. Unlike traditional shock absorbers that merely dissipate this energy as heat, a regenerative shock absorber captures and converts it. In the context of an electric vehicle or hybrid electric vehicle, the generated electricity from the shock absorber can be directed towards the powertrain, thereby extending the battery life.

The electromagnetic suspension system for power generation is designed to transform the linear motion and vibration generated by vehicle bumps into electricity for battery charging. Unlike conventional vehicle shock absorbers that merely absorb this energy without converting it into electricity, this system serves the dual purpose of mitigating shocks and harnessing the generated power for charging purposes. The concept behind the shock absorber power generation system for automobiles and two-wheelers involves transforming parasitic intermittent linear motion and vibration into valuable energy. When integrated into electric vehicles or hybrid electric vehicles, the generated electricity from the shock absorber can be redirected to the powertrain, thereby enhancing the battery life. In traditional non-electric vehicles, the electricity generated can be utilized to power auxiliary components like air conditioning. Although various systems have been recently devised, they are currently in the developmental stage and have not yet been incorporated into production vehicles.

The present invention is coordinated to a double utilize ElectroMechanical energy transducer for a vehicle and a control system for selecting between two modes of operation: a current generating mode and a shock absorber assistant mode. In particular, the inventive system uses an electromagnetic transducer that can be selectively used to convert otherwise wasted mechanical movements in the form of vertical vibrations in a moving vehicle into electrical current for charging a battery. On the other hand, the transducer can be specifically utilized as an assistant for the shock absorbers to adjust the riding characteristics of the vehicle.

A shock absorber in common parlance (or damper in technical use) is a mechanical device designed to smooth out or dampen a sudden shock impulse and dissipate kinetic energy. It is analogous to a resistor in an electric RLC circuit.
